David Thompson

As a Partner in the Commercial Group, David represents venture backed startups and public technology companies in commercial matters with a focus on software licensing, tech transactions, privacy, channel programs, intellectual property, legal/sales operations and product counseling.

David’s journey in the legal field includes notable roles at prominent companies. Between 2016 and 2022, David served in leadership positions at Forescout Technologies and SentinelOne, two category leading cybersecurity companies that went public during his tenure. Most recently, David managed high stakes cloud/SaaS negotiations and GTM initiatives for Johnson & Johnson, which became his first Presidio client. Through these and other roles, David gained experience in direct and channel sales of software (cloud and on prem), hardware, retail goods and professional services into commercial and government markets.

Prior to his in-house journey, David practiced corporate law at Wilmer Cutler Pickering Hale & Dorr LLP and Brobeck Phleger & Harrison LLP, where he represented investors and emerging growth and public technology companies in venture capital investments, mergers and acquisitions, private equity deals, and IPOs.

David’s commitment to legal excellence is complemented by his educational background. He holds a Juris Doctor from the University of California, Davis, and a Bachelor of Arts from the University of California, Berkeley. He further expanded his expertise through the Executive Education Program at the Stanford Graduate School of Business.

Outside of work, David enjoys surfing, skiing, and spending time with family. His teenage sons are sponsored skateboarders and mountain bikers in the Santa Cruz area. As a hobby, David plays the saxophone in Kava Jah & the Remedy, a Covid reggae recording project that led to a 2022 EP and full album due July 1, 2023.
